Why Choose Therapy?

You don’t have to be in crisis to come to therapy.
Most of the people I work with are capable, self-aware, and holding a lot together—but
something underneath isn’t working the way it used to.
It might look like:
-
You're defaulting to avoidance—scrolling, drinking more than you’d like, eating to settle things, or pulling back from connection
-
Your attention feels scattered—starting and stopping, circling tasks, or struggling to follow through in a way that actually feels satisfying
-
Your mind keeps looping—overthinking conversations, second-guessing decisions, or trying to stay one step ahead of what might go wrong
-
You take on more than your share—being the reliable one—then end up feeling drained, frustrated, or quietly resentful
-
You’re navigating a change—a breakup, divorce, job transition, move, or loss—and things that used to feel steady don’t quite feel that way anymore
At a certain point, understanding what’s happening isn’t the same as being able to change it.
When your mind won’t settle
-
You're thinking ahead all the time—replaying conversations, second-guessing decisions, or trying to anticipate what could go wrong.
-
Even when things are going well, your system doesn’t fully relax. There’s a steady sense of tension underneath.
When the past is still showing up in the present
Sometimes the impact of trauma is obvious. Other times, it's subtle—like your reactions don’t quite match what’s happening now.
You might notice:
-
strong emotional responses that come on quickly
-
intrusive thoughts or memories that are hard to shake
-
a sense of being flooded, shut down, or pulled out of the moment
-
patterns that feel familiar, even when you want something different
I draw from approaches like Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Internal Family Systems (IFS) to support this process in a way that feels paced, grounded, and manageable.
When relationships feel harder than they should
You might find yourself:
-
over-accommodating or taking on too much
-
struggling to name what you need—or feeling unsure you’re allowed to
-
staying in dynamics that don’t feel good, while also feeling conflicted about leaving
These patterns often have roots in earlier experiences of connection—how safety, closeness, and conflict were learned.

Melanie Eaton, LCSW
Licensed in Oregon and Washington - 18 years experience
Therapy with me isn’t just talking about what’s happening.
It's helping you access:
-
A nervous system that can actually settle—not just push through
-
Practical tools that translate into real-life change
-
A clearer sense of who you are and what matters to you
-
More confidence in your decisions and relationships
-
Reconnection with the YOU that was burried in the rubble.
-
Greater internal stability and more ease in how you relate to others
We work directly with the parts of you that get pulled into painful thoughts, feelings, or patterns of responding—so change isn’t just something you understand intellectually, but something you actually experience.
Alongside that deeper work, I’m actively engaged with you—tracking what’s happening in real time, helping you make sense of it, and bringing in tools when they’re useful.
I draw from effective, evidence-based approaches including EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), with careful attention to somatic work and nervous system regulation.
I celebrate and affirm the LGBTQIA2S+ community and people of all abilities, races, sizes and socioeconomic backgrounds. I work from a lens of awareness of the layers of priveledge or barriers that we navigate daily. My values drive me to remain in the growth and learning process around this matrix.

How I Can Help
Individual Therapy
Offering individual telehealth therapy to adults in Oregon and Washington. Connect to support from the comfort of your own space. Weekly or bi-weekly 60 minute sessions available.
EMDR Therapy
EMDR therapy is designed to help your mind and body process experiences that feel stuck, so they no longer carry the same emotional intensity. Over time, this can reduce anxiety, reactivity, and the sense of being pulled back into old patterns.
Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS)
IFS therapy, created by Richard Schwartz, PhD, helps you make sense of the internal patterns that drive anxiety, self-criticism, and emotional overwhelm. By working with these different parts of yourself, you can begin to feel less reactive and more grounded in how you move through your life.
